Long Island, New York – Today, author Ray Keating observed: “It’s always interesting when fiction and reality intersect. And that’s the case with a letter issued earlier this month by religious leaders supporting traditional marriage, and the story I tell in my new book Warrior Monk: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel.”

The letter Keating references was titled “The Protection of Marriage: A Shared Commitment,” and said, in part, “Marriage is the permanent and faithful union of one man and one woman. As such, marriage is the natural basis of the family… As religious leaders across different faith communities, we join together and affirm our shared commitment to promote and protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We honor the unique love between husbands and wives; the indispensable place of fathers and mothers; and the corresponding rights and dignity of all children.” Among the signers were various Catholic, Lutheran, Evangelical, Baptist, Jewish and Mormon leaders.

Keating added, “This effort offers a flavor of the broad proposal in my novel made by the pope for a unified, public voice among traditional Christians across churches and denominations on fundamental matters of morality where Holy Scripture is clear, standing in opposition to, for example, moral relativism and militant secularism.”

Warrior Monk: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel revolves around a former CIA assassin, Stephen Grant, who has lived a far different, relatively quiet life as a pastor in recent years. A shooting at his church, this historic papal proposal, and threats to the Pope’s life mean that Grant’s former and current lives collide. Grant must tap the varied skills learned as a government agent, a theologian and a pastor not only to protect the Pope, but also to feel his way through a minefield of personal challenges.
